A New Logo for Sedgeberrow? – Your Thoughts Needed

Over the past year, we’ve achieved some fantastic things together – from getting our new pétanque piste up and running to raising money for myeloma charities through community events. Both are brilliant examples of how Sedgeberrow works best: people pulling together, sharing ideas, and making things happen for the good of the whole village.

With that same spirit in mind, we’ve been looking at creating something new – a village logo.

Why a logo?

The idea is simple: to have a clear, recognisable emblem that represents Sedgeberrow on newsletters, posters, fundraising events, online, and even at regional activities like pétanque matches. A logo won’t change who we are, but it can give us a consistent “look” that shows our village pride wherever it’s used.

The first draft design

The draft logo we’ve come up with features the sedge plant, a nod to the origin of our name. “Sedge” refers to the plant itself, which grows along our rivers, and “berrow” comes from an old word for a hill or mound. Together they gave us “Sedgeberrow.”

Beneath the plant, we’ve added 'Est. 777', the year Offa, King of Mercia, gave SEDGEBERROW to the under-king Aldred, ealdorman of the Hwiccas, who bestowed it on the Bishop of Worcester – a reminder that we are part of a history stretching back more than 1,200 years.

The colours are drawn from our surroundings:

  • Green leaves for the countryside,

  • Golden-brown seed heads for warmth and heritage,

  • Navy lettering for strength and clarity,

  • All on a clean white background for simplicity.

It’s intended to be both traditional and fresh – a reflection of who we are today.

How we might use it

If the village agrees to adopt a logo, we could use it across lots of places:

  • Newsletters and notices.

  • Fundraising events (like our work for myeloma charities),

  • Village signage.

  • Club activities (such as the pétanque piste).

We’re also thinking longer-term: developing a shared design language – using the wreath, strong lettering, and plants – so other groups can adapt the style to create their own logos while still feeling part of the bigger Sedgeberrow family.

But this is just the start...

Nothing has been decided yet. This is just a first idea to get people talking.

  • Do you like it as it is?

  • Would you suggest changes?

  • Do you have a better idea?

We want the logo to be something everyone feels proud of, so your thoughts are essential.

Your chance to shape it!

Just like the pétanque piste or our fundraising, this should be a whole village project. When people bring their ideas and energy together, we all benefit.

If you’d like to share your thoughts – on the logo or any other village project – please do. We’re open to setting up small working groups to explore new ideas and make them happen.

A village with heart.

Sedgeberrow has always been a place where neighbours pull together. The proposed logo is simply one more way of showing that spirit, and with your input, we can make sure it reflects all of us.
